Some “little known facts” about Pashmina:
What is Pashmina?
Pashmina is the finest cashmere wool sheared from the underbelly of a mountain goat called Capra Hircus found in the Himalayan regions of Tibet, Mongolia, Kashmir and Central Asia.
The shearing process does not in anyway, hurt the animal.
How are they made?
The Pashmina Wool is very delicate and because of this machines cannot spin it. Therefore, a skilled weaver spins the pashmina fibers by hand and it takes about 15 days of spun pashmina to make one pashmina shawl.
This spun pashmina is then hand woven with the help of a loom to make a Pashmina Shawl. This Shawl is cleaned and hand dyed to the specific color required with the help of natural dyes. At the end the fringes are hand-twisted and knotted to give the pashmina an elegant finish. On average, it takes about 200 hours to make a Pashmina shawl.
